The Bull Terrier is a breed of dog that unjustly found itself within the framework of public censure for its formidable disposition and bloodthirstiness. But Bull Terrier owners can easily debunk this myth, because they know for sure that their pets have a friendly and cheerful temperament, a sensitive and devoted heart.
Bull Terrier is a breed of dogs that was bred in England and belongs to one of the most numerous groups of terriers. The name comes from the English bull terrier, which means bull - bull, terrier - terrier.
Their ancestors, called Bull and Terriers, were popular in England in the 19th century. It was a cross between bulldogs and terriers. Initially, the breed was bred to combat rodents. With an emphasis on aggressiveness, they were used to participate in dog fights, which were soon banned.
In 1860, thanks to James Hinks, the breed took on its final form and in 1862 was presented at an exhibition. In 1890, Bull Terriers were first introduced to the United States, where the American Bull Terrier Club was founded. The breed quickly became popular as a pet and show dog.
For many years the color was pure white, only small spots on the head were allowed. But at the beginning of the 20th century, after crossing with Staffordshire Bull Terriers, representatives of the breed of other colors appeared.
The breed is in good health. Life expectancy is 11-13 years.
Bull Terriers rarely have obvious deviations in health. Deafness is considered the main hereditary problem. However, thanks to animal testing carried out by nurseries, such a defect has recently been encountered quite rarely.
Bull Terriers are very intelligent and determined dogs with a bright character. They are distinguished by their irrepressible energy and love to play pranks, for which they are even called "children in dog's skin." They are playful, want to be in the center of events and strive to be with the owner all the time. Although Bull Terriers are considered independent, at the same time they are so attached to the owner that they feel sad when he is absent for a long time. Pets cannot be alone for a long time.
